RAP Tax Funding Update

On July 10th 12 arts organizations in Cedar City presented their case for RAP tax funding to the RAP Tax Arts comittee. Each organization had delivered applications before July 3rd and now had 10 minutes to present their organizations case.

This year there will be approximately $195,000 distributed to the Arts through the RAP tax. Approximately $390,000 will be distributed to Recreation and Parks.

The Cedar City Arts Council asked for a total of $26,300 in funding for three areas. $3,800 to help cover operating expenses ( advertising, rentals, printing, etc.) $2,500 to help hire a part time assitant (organize events, marketing, grant writing, etc) and $20,000 for an art bench project to place artist created benches at certain CATS bus stops.

The final recommendation for the CCAC funding was a total of $6,300. The artist bench project was not funded because the city is currently looking at providing benches and shelters for the bus stops.

The committee has made recommendations for arts funding which will go before the city council in the next few weeks for final approval. Three organizations did not meet all the qualifications for the RAP tax funding.

The list of recommended funding is below.

Neil Simon Festival: $35,00
Utah Shakespearean Festival: $109,543
Cedar City Master Singers: $6,000
Cedar City Arts Council: $6,300
Cedar City Music Arts: $13,000
Orchestra of Southern Utah: $12,000
Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery: $2,500
In Jubilo: $500
Cedar City Jr. Ballet: $10,000
Not funded: Scarlet and Black Bagpipe Band, Iron Mission Foundation, SUU Creative Writing Conference

Please make sure you let city officials and council members know how important it is to continue funding for the arts and your support of the RAP tax.
